[AUDITORY] PhD position in Virtual Acoustic Environments (TH Köln, Germany)

we are looking for a Research Assistant (PhD candidate) to work on virtual acoustic environments at TH Köln, Germany.

The position focuses on:

  • Investigating plausible auralizations of “Natural Sound Sources”
  • Modeling and simulation of acoustic environments
  • Spatial audio and auditory perception

The position is currently advertised with a duration of three years; an extension to five years is planned.

That awaits you

  • Research work in the field of virtual acoustic environments as part of a project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), with the aim of investigating the perceptual aspects of natural sound sources
  • Implementation and adaptation of headphone-based virtual environments using dynamic binaural synthesis
  • Work on the project packages, in particular the measurement of the dynamic directivities of natural sound sources, as well as the development and evaluation of the test system
  • Planning, conducting and evaluating psychoacoustic experiments to determine perceptual thresholds
  • Publication of research results as scientifically sound publications in English as the basis for your doctoral thesis
  • Independent teaching (4 contact hours per week; preparation, delivery and follow-up of courses)

 

Your skills

·  A university degree (Master’s level) in STEM subjects, a technical degree programme or equivalent

·  Intention to pursue a PhD

·  Excellent knowledge in the fields of audio engineering, audio signal processing and sound perception

·  Expertise in the field of virtual acoustic environments is an advantage

·  Good programming skills (e.g. Matlab, C++, Python)

·  Proficient in academic work

·  Very good command of English

·  Independent and structured approach to work with a strong focus on results

·  Strong affinity for research and a proactive attitude
