Dear colleagues,
I would like to invite you to take part in, or share with potential
participants, a study on the perception of *extreme metal vocal
techniques*.
The experiment examines how listeners perceive *growling, screaming,
clean
vocals, and melodic vs. non-melodic conditions*. We compare two groups
of
listeners — *metal fans* and *non-metal fans* — in their ability to
understand lyrics, recognize melody, and follow rhythm across these
conditions.
Pilot data from this project were presented at the *18th International
Conference on Music Perception and Cognition (ICMPC18, São Paulo, July
2025)*. We have now launched the *main data collection phase*, after
which
results will be prepared for publication.
Participation takes approximately *20–25 minutes* and can be completed
online via the following link:

A flyer suitable for sharing on social media is also attached.
Your help in circulating this study would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time and support!
Best regards,
*Alexey Voronin*
