[AUDITORY] Call for participants – study on perception of extreme metal vocal techniques

Dear colleagues,

I would like to invite you to take part in, or share with potential participants, a study on the perception of extreme metal vocal techniques.

The experiment examines how listeners perceive growling, screaming, clean vocals, and melodic vs. non-melodic conditions. We compare two groups of listeners — metal fans and non-metal fans — in their ability to understand lyrics, recognize melody, and follow rhythm across these conditions.

Pilot data from this project were presented at the 18th International Conference on Music Perception and Cognition (ICMPC18, São Paulo, July 2025). We have now launched the main data collection phase, after which results will be prepared for publication.

Participation takes approximately 20–25 minutes and can be completed online via the following link:

A flyer suitable for sharing on social media is also attached.

Your help in circulating this study would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and support!

Best regards,
