Dr. Arenberg is a neuroscientist/audiologi= st and the Director of Research and Education for Audiology at MEE and an A= ssociate Professor at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Quesnel is a cochlear im= plant surgeon/neurotologist and the Director of the Mass Eye and Ear Otopat= hology Lab and an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. We study human histopathology underlying the variability in speech percepti= on outcomes in temporal bones that have been procured and processed from pa= tients who had cochlear implants placed during life. We employ 3D reconstru= ctions, apply machine learning algorithms, and use immunohistochemical and = microscopy techniques to analyze the integrity and distribution of spiral g= anglion neurons. We are developing a computation model of the electrode-ne= uron interface that will incorporate the histopathological data from the te= mporal bones and clinical and experimental data from living cochlear implan= t users, to ultimately apply this knowledge to improve cochlear implant pro= gramming approaches. The fellow will be involved in all aspects of the stu= dy and will be involved in data analyses and presenting and writing manuscr= ipts. We are seeking highly motivated candidates who recently graduated with an P= hD in biology, hearing science, audiology, neuroscience, computational biol= ogy, biomedical engineering, pathology, or another related field. The candi= date should have strong communication skills, some programming experience, = and the ability to work in a team. The fellow will have an appointment at = Massachusetts Eye and Ear (MEE) and Harvard Medical School (HMS). MEE and H= MS provide rich intellectual and scientific environments and the necessary = infrastructure to carry out the proposed research. Training and career dev= elopment are a priority. Interested applicants should email their CV, names of 3 references and cove= r letter to Julie_Arenberg@xxxxxxxx<mailto:Julie_Arenberg@xxxxxxxx= ard.edu> or Alicia_Quesnel@xxxxxxxx<mailto:Alicia_Quesnel@xxxxxxxx= ard.edu>.
