The pos= ition will begin in August 2024. Individuals with a background in audiology= , neuroscience, psychology, engineering, or a related area are encouraged t= o apply. Individuals with experience conducting physiologic and/or behavior= al assessments of auditory function are especially encouraged to apply. Our laboratory studies the ascending and descending auditory pathways in ad= ults with normal hearing and with hearing loss. We use a combination of phy= siologic measures (e.g., otoacoustic emissions and auditory brainstem respo= nses) and perceptual measures of auditory function. The long-term goals of = our research program are to determine how sound perception is driven by the= interconnections between the peripheral and central auditory systems, to d= elineate the effect of hearing loss on these interconnections, and to deter= mine the impact of potential treatments when these interconnections are imp= aired. Our laboratory is part of the Department of Speech and Hearing Science at t= he University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (https://ahs.illinois.edu/speech= -&-hearing-science). Information about our PhD program can be found at http= s://ahs.illinois.edu/speech-%26-hearing-science/phd. Interested individuals can send a CV and cover letter describing research i= nterests to the lab director Ian Mertes (imertes@xxxxxxxx<mailto:imerte= s@xxxxxxxx>). Preference will be given to individuals who submit materi= als by February 16. - Ian Mertes, PhD, AuD, CCC-A Assistant Professor Dept. of Speech and Hearing Science University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign 208 Speech and Hearing Science Building 901 S.
