We can talk probalities, sure. But as a younger academic not from America w= ho hasn't "made it" I know if a lot example of people of all sorts who been unfairly advantaged and disadvantaged, sometimes simultaneously in different contexts. The mere existence of inequality is not evidence of unfairness either. Unless everyone had exactly the same preferences and backgrounds, systems naturally evolve to produce inequality. In fact, equality is the worst possible solution to practically any social scenario. It is "splitting the baby" that necessarily leaves everyone worse off. That doesn't mean unfairness is good, but prejudice is no better, even if it nominally enacted to reverse past unfairness. I simply do not accept that prejudice now does anything to redress past prejudice. It only adds to the sum of human misery. I would like to think we can transcend it.
