The position is open t= o a wide range of possible topic areas related to clinical and public healt= h aspects of auditory injury and rehabilitation. Applications are accepted = on a rolling basis via the job-posting link below. I would also recommend = that you get in touch with Stefanie Kuchinsky (stefanie.e.kuchinsky.civ@xxxxxxxx= lth.mil<mailto:stefanie.e.kuchinsky.civ@xxxxxxxx> ), Doug Brungart (dougl= as.s.brungart.civ@xxxxxxxx<mailto:douglas.s.brungart.civ@xxxxxxxx>) or = me (Joshua.g.bernstein.civ@xxxxxxxx<mailto:Joshua.g.bernstein.civ@xxxxxxxx= mil> ) to discuss your interest. U.S. Citizenship is required. https://www.zintellect.com/Opportunity/Details/DCPH-A-2023-0002 The Defense Centers for Public Health - Aberdeen (DCPH-A) and the affiliate= d Scientific and Clinical Studies Section (SCSS) of the Audiology and Speec= h Pathology Center at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethe= sda, Maryland is offering a postdoctoral fellowship in Audiology. The SCSS= is an active research program conducting studies in basic science, hearing= protection, hearing restoration, auditory pathology (e.g., tinnitus, singl= e-sided deafness, hidden hearing loss), sound localization, cognition, and = speech/language impairments resulting from traumatic brain injury. The goal of the postdoctoral research opportunity is to carry out research = aimed at improving the hearing surveillance system in the DoD and its conne= ction to clinical audiological treatment at military treatment facilities b= y: * Identifying psychoacoustic and speech-perception tests that are corre= lated with estimates of noise exposure, temporary threshold shift, or subje= ctive complaints about hearing difficulties or tinnitus. * Developing better tools to reliably measure hearing deficits and smal= l changes in hearing that are not captured by standard audiometric assessme= nts, including the use of reaction time, pupillometry, dichotic listening t= ests, and mobile-phone-based speech-in-noise tests for longitudinal surveil= lance. * Collaborating with teams of clinical researchers and public health re= searchers to facilitate the parallel development and transfer of these tool= s between clinical applications for the injured warfighter (e.g., cochlear = implants for single-sided deafness, low-gain hearing aids to treat subjecti= ve complaints with otherwise clinically normal hearing) and public health a= pplications for the broader population of service members (e.g., surveillan= ce of hearing injury not revealed by standard tools). ***Please Note: my email address has changed to joshua.g.bernstein.civ@xxxxxxxx= th.mil<mailto:joshua.g.bernstein.civ@xxxxxxxx>. Beginning in December 202= 2, I will no longer be able to receive messages sent to my previous mail.mi= l address *** __________________________________________________________ Joshua G.W.
