Bio: Pascal Belin graduated from Ecole Polytechnique de Paris in 1992 and comple= ted in 1997 his doctoral thesis in Cognitive Sciences on the cerebral bases= of language lateralization at Service Hospitalier Fr=E9d=E9ric Joliot, Ors= ay. During his postdoctoral stay at McGill University in Prof. Robert Zator= re's lab their discovery of the "voice areas" of the human brain in 2000 or= iented his scientific career towards the study of the Vocal Brain. Pascal Belin was appointed Assistant Professor in Psychology at University = of Montreal in 2001, then Professor of Neuroscience at Glasgow University i= n 2005. In 2012, he joined Aix-Marseille University and the Timone Neurosci= ence Institute<https://www.int.univ-amu.fr/> where he has since been leadin= g the "Neural Bases of Communication<https://neuralbasesofcommunication.eu/= >" research team. Pascal Belin<https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=3D9PF-MhQAAAAJ&hl=3D= fr> has published more than 130 scientific articles in international journa= ls, cited more than 20,000 times. He the co-editor with Prof. Sascha Fr=FCh= holz of the recent Oxford Handbook of Voice Perception that gathers 50 cont= ributions from leading researchers in the emerging domain of Voice Informat= ion Science. In 2018 he was awarded an Advanced Grant from the European Res= earch Council for the project COVOPRIM: A Comparative Study of Voice Percep= tion in Primates. A brief abstract for the talk can be found below: The human voice is the most important sound category in our auditory enviro= nment: because it carries speech, but also because it is an "auditory face"= which we are expert at decoding. Neuroimaging studies have identified Temp= oral Voice Areas (TVAs) in the human auditory cortex, key nodes of a cerebr= al network of cortical and subcortical areas involved in processing voice i= nformation. But are the TVAs uniquely human? Comparative fMRI reveals that = macaque monkeys also possess TVAs that are not only analogous, but also fun= ctionally homologous to the human TVAs in categorizing conspecific vocaliza= tions apart from other sounds. This indicates a long evolutionary history o= f the vocal brain. After this the immediate schedule is: Ian Russel - 9/3/23 Christopher Davis - 23/3/23 Barbara Canlon - 20/4/23 Talk link: ___________________________________________________________________________= _____ Microsoft Teams meeting Join on your computer, mobile app or room device Click here to join the meeting<https://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join/19= %3ameeting_MzY5YWVmYTgtNDhjNC00NjcyLThmNjMtZjM4YWQzYmE1ZDI0%40thread.v2/0?c= ontext=3D%7b%22Tid%22%3a%2267bda7ee-fd80-41ef-ac91-358418290a1e%22%2c%22Oid= %22%3a%2265424ff9-7b15-4b28-bca6-c4c67b65ab02%22%7d> Meeting ID: 383 033 984 894 Passcode: LkWkYe Download Teams<https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-teams/download-app= > | Join on the web<https://www.microsoft.com/microsoft-teams/join-a-meetin= g> Learn More<https://aka.ms/JoinTeamsMeeting> | Meeting options<https://teams= .microsoft.com/meetingOptions/?organizerId=3D65424ff9-7b15-4b28-bca6-c4c67b= 65ab02&tenantId=3D67bda7ee-fd80-41ef-ac91-358418290a1e&threadId=3D19_meetin= g_MzY5YWVmYTgtNDhjNC00NjcyLThmNjMtZjM4YWQzYmE1ZDI0@xxxxxxxx&messageId=3D0&= language=3Den-US> ___________________________________________________________________________= _____ Best, Joe Dr Joseph Sollini Auditory Cortical Circuits Lab Hearing Sciences The University of Nottingham W: https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/research/groups/hearingsciences/people/jose= ph.sollini W: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1974-4291 This message and any attachment are intended solely for the addressee and may contain confidential information.
