Many thanks, Mark --- Research Fellow in Design Research for Sound Sensing Location: University of Surrey, Guildford, UK Closing Date: Wednesday 23 November 2022 (23:59 GMT) Further details: https://jobs.surrey.ac.uk/077622 Applications are invited for a 2-year Research Fellow in Design Research fo= r Sound Sensing, to work full-time on an EPSRC-funded Fellowship project "A= I for Sound", to start on 12 December 2022 or as soon as possible thereafte= r. The aim of the project is to undertake research in computational analysi= s of everyday sounds, in the context of a set of real-world use cases in as= sisted living in the home, smart buildings, smart cities, and the creative = sector. =20 The post holder will be responsible for participative engagement with domai= n experts and users, including assessing user requirements, running and eng= aging in design workshops, and conducting evaluation studies on the project= , both to drive the technology research, and to ensure successful developme= nt and application of the project technology. The postholder will be based = in CVSSP and work under the direction of PI (EPSRC Fellow) Prof Mark Plumbl= ey. The successful applicant is expected to have a PhD (gained or near completi= on) in Design Research, Human Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Ser= vice Design, or a closely-related discipline, or equivalent professional ex= perience, and experience in assessing user requirements, conducting evaluat= ion studies, and using participatory research methods. Experience of runnin= g and/or engaging in design workshops, research experience in design for hu= man interaction with sounds and/or soundscapes is desirable; as is experien= ce in the organisation of public engagement activities. Interests related t= o noise and soundscapes and the role of sound in society is also desirable. CVSSP is an International Centre of Excellence for research in Audio-Visual= Machine Perception, with 125 researchers, a grant portfolio of =A324M (=A3= 17.5M EPSRC) from EPSRC, EU, Innovate UK, charity and industry, and a turno= ver of =A37M/annum. The Centre has state-of-the-art acoustic capture and an= alysis facilities and a Visual Media Lab with video and audio capture facil= ities supporting research in real-time video and audio processing and visua= lisation. CVSSP has a compute facility with 120 GPUs for deep learning and = >1PB of high-speed secure storage.
