Dr. Elise Piazza=92s research focuses on the cognitive and neural mecha= nisms of human communication across the lifespan. She studies how coupling = between people=92s brains and behaviors supports successful communication a= nd learning, how listeners compute summary statistics (or concise =93gist= =94 representations) of complex natural sounds, and how speakers adapt thei= r voices to listeners=92 demands. She also studies musical communication, s= uch as how musicians=92 brains coordinate during performance and how musica= l training impacts the hierarchical processing of sounds in the brain. The = lab uses behavioral, fMRI, fNIRS, and machine learning approaches. Our lab is committed to conducting inclusive, equitable, groundbreaking, an= d interdisciplinary research.
