The post forms part of a programme of research led = by Dr. Bob Carlyon of the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit, Cambridge,= and will be primarily based at the Emmeline Centre for Hearing Implants, A= ddenbrookes hospital, Cambridge. The post involves the combination of clinical work with behavioural and ele= ctrophysiological studies of methods to improve hearing by cochlear implant= (CI) users. Clinical aspects of the role include the fitting and managemen= t of CIs and contribution to all aspects of clinical care for CI patients w= ith a focus on follow-up programming and obtaining outcome measures. An important part of the role will include the integration of basic science= carried out at the University with the clinical pathway of patients at the= Emmeline Centre for Hearing Implants and will lead the recruitment of pati= ents into research studies. Both the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit = and the Emmeline Centre house state-of-the-art facilities are part of a thr= iving auditory research and clinical community, including the Cambridge Hea= ring Group, which involves auditory researchers from a wide range of discip= lines throughout the University and Cambridge University Hospitals Trust. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified audiologist to make a subst= antial contribution to cochlear research and to develop their research and = clinical skills. The successful candidate will have strong clinical skills = and experience and at least some research experience; a higher research deg= ree is desirable but not essential. The appointment will be made at the Sen= ior or Lead Research Audiologist level, corresponding to bands 6 and 7 of t= he NHS Agenda for Change pay scales. Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 4 years in the first = instance.
