Areas of responsibility The professor will be responsible for initiating, supervising, and publishi= ng research in the field of Auditory Science. The professor will also be re= sponsible for developing new strategies for collaboration with other key st= akeholders in the area of auditory science. Furthermore, the professor will= be expected to be the daily leader of the research staff in the Auditory S= cience Section and will also be expected to support the head of the master = program in Audiology in creating an inspiring and research supported educat= ion at the highest international level. Additionally, the professor must teach and mentor postdocs, PhD students, a= nd undergraduate students at the Faculty of Health Sciences. It is expected= that the professor maintains and develop national and international contac= ts to build research relationships and collaboration for further grant appl= ications. Research activity, network, and collaboration The professor will be expected to contribute to further development of the = research strategy and to promote the department with special emphasis on au= ditory science. The professor will also be expected to increase the researc= h activity and to establish collaborations with other researchers at SDU an= d OUH as well as other national and international collaborators. Specifical= ly, a close collaboration with the clinical Audiology Section at Odense Uni= versity Hospital (OUH) will be expected. The professor will also be expecte= d to participate in further scientific development of the fields both natio= nally and internationally. Employers The Research Unit of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology at the Department of Clinical Re= search is divided into three main sections dealing with research concerning= Surgically Related ENT, Medical Audiology, and Auditory Science. It has to= day 49 employees: 2 clinical professors, a research coordinator, 11 associa= te professors, 8 postdocs, 10 PhD students, five research nurses and 2 rese= arch secretaries. Most of the positions are combinations of clinical functi= ons (major part), teaching and research. The research unit teaches on three study programmes: Medicine, Audiology an= d Speech and Language Pathology. Around 1,000 lessons and 200 hours of supe= rvision are delivered per year. It produces approximately 40 international = peer-reviewed publications per year. The funding for 2020 was 14 million Da= nish Kroner, of which more than 90% were external contributions, primarily = established by the audiological sections. Professor Christian Godballe, MD, PhD, heads the unit. The Auditory Science Section conducts basic and applied research aimed at u= nderstanding hearing-related problems and developing solutions for their re= habilitation. It currently consists of two associate professors, one assist= ant professor, one teaching assistant professor, four postdocs, four PhD st= udents, a research master student, and a research assistant. The group curr= ently works on projects related to individualized hearing-aid processing, n= ew methods for hearing-aid fitting, EEG-based measures of speech perception= , hearing deficits in school-age children, and real-world listening outcome= with hearing loss.
