Many thanks, Mark --- Research Engineer (Research Fellow) in Sound Sensing Location: University of Surrey, Guildford, UK Closing Date: Monday 14 March 2022 (23:59 GMT) Applications are invited for a 2.5-year (30-month) Research Engineer (Resea= rch Fellow) in Sound Sensing, to work full-time on an EPSRC-funded Fellowsh= ip project =93AI for Sound=94 (https://ai4s.surrey.ac.uk/), to start on 1 A= pril 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.=20 The aim of the project is to undertake research in computational analysis o= f everyday sounds, in the context of a set of real-world use cases in assis= ted living in the home, smart buildings, smart cities, and the creative sec= tor. =20 The postholder will be responsible for designing and building the hardware = and software to be developed in the fellowship, including sound sensor syst= ems, open-source software libraries and datasets to be released from the pr= oject.=20 The postholder will be based in the Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Pr= ocessing (CVSSP) and work under the direction of PI (EPSRC Fellow) Prof Mar= k Plumbley. The successful applicant is expected to have a postgraduate qualification i= n electronic engineering, computer science or a related subject, or equival= ent professional experience; experience in software and hardware developmen= t relevant to signal processing or sensor devices, and experience in softwa= re development in topics such as audio signal processing, machine learning,= deep learning, and/or sensor systems. Experience in development and deplo= yment of hardware sensors, Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices, or audio syste= ms; and programming experience using Python, C++, MATLAB, or other tools fo= r signal processing, machine learning or deep learning is desirable. Direct= research experience, or experience of hardware or software development whi= le working closely with researchers, is also desirable. CVSSP is an International Centre of Excellence for research in Audio-Visual= Machine Perception, with 180 researchers, a grant portfolio of =A326M (=A3= 17.5M EPSRC), and a turnover of =A37M/annum. The Centre has state-of-the-ar= t acoustic capture and analysis facilities and a Visual Media Lab with vide= o and audio capture facilities supporting research in real-time video and a= udio processing and visualisation. CVSSP has a compute facility with 120 GP= Us for deep learning and >1PB of high-speed secure storage.=20 The University is located in Guildford, a picturesque market town with exce= llent schools and amenities, and set in the beautiful Surrey Hills, an area= of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
