Dear Auditory Science Community, I am a vision scientist who teaches Introduction to Sensation and=20 Perception, which is about one third audition in our implementation. One=20 request that some of us have received of late, from students fighting=20 for social justice, is to acknowledge scientists from under-represented=20 groups, particularly BIPOC folks, in the=C2=A0 classes we teach. So, I wo= nder: Could we together gather a list of scientific figures from the field's=20 past who were self-acknowledged members of under-represented groups? We=20 could then use this resource to update our courses. Or perhaps some=20 resources exists already?=C2=A0 Please forward anything you think would h= elp,=20 and I will happily share results. Thanks, Steve Engel University of Minnesota engel@xxxxxxxx http://engellab.psych.umn.edu/ PS The emphasis is the field's past here; please check with currently=20 practicing scientists if they are OK being listed. PPS "Race" is emphasized here over gender, ableness, and other important=20 factors, in part because of the current moment. PPPS And of course there are many other things we can and should be=20 doing to increase diversity and justice in our fields and the world.
