The PDFs will work within an international, interdisciplinary partnership d= irected by Stephen McAdams, and including McGill faculty members in composi= tion (Denys Bouliane, John Rea, Philippe Leroux), music theory (Robert Hase= gawa), sound recording (Martha de Francisco), music technology (Philippe De= palle, Ichiro Fujinaga), conducting (Guillaume Bourgogne), and music psycho= logy (Stephen McAdams). The ACTOR Partnership (see www.actor-project.org<ht= tp://www.actor-project.org/>) proposes to bring the often-neglected topics = of timbre and orchestration to the forefront of musical scholarship and pra= ctice, through a collaboration including world-class artists, scholars, and= scientists. This Partnership links major North American and European unive= rsities, conservatories, research centres, orchestras, and companies to dev= elop a solid theoretical basis for orchestration practice and pedagogy, to = stimulate the development of new creativity-enhancing digital tools for tea= ching and learning orchestration, and to apply tools of corpus analysis and= machine learning to better understand orchestration practice in over four = centuries of music. The partnership is organized into three primary researc= h axes: 1) Analysis Axis =E2=80=93 score, text, audio, perception and perfo= rmance analysis of orchestration practice and interpretation, 2) Tool Devel= opment Axis =E2=80=93 development of computer-aided orchestration and orche= stral simulation environments, an orchestration research database, and an o= nline interactive orchestration resource, 3) Output Innovation Axis =E2=80= =93 applying the analysis-based research and tools to innovation in orchest= ration pedagogy, music scholarship and composition. The post-doctoral researcher will work primarily on the Analysis Axis and w= ill be involved in project coordination and research on orchestration in th= e fields of music theory and musicology, audio analysis, performance analys= is, perceptual analysis and text analysis. They will participate in the dev= elopment of methods for evaluating the impact of this research in those dom= ains and will co-supervise graduate and undergraduate students. The ideal c= andidate will have a doctoral degree in music theory, music psychology, or = music-related computer science, with a strong background in orchestration a= nd an interest in interdisciplinary innovation. A deep knowledge of common-= practice and contemporary orchestral repertoire is a significant plus. Addi= tional tasks include being a member of the ACTOR Executive Committee, coord= inating development of the Online Orchestration Resource, organizing the AC= TOR Symposium semi-annually at McGill University, contributing to the annua= l ACTOR Workshops, and communicating with specialist and general audiences = (including dissemination through social media and blog posts).
