--0000000000008bb00405991d3464 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Dear Auditory List, The University of Florida Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences (SLHS) is actively recruiting enthusiastic and well-qualified applicants for the Ph.D. program. Specific opportunities are available for doctoral training in the labs of Sterling W. Sheffield, AuD, PhD, Yonghee OH, PhD, and Susan Nittrouer, PhD. Descriptions for each opportunity are provided below. Ph.D. students in our department earn the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Rehabilitation Sciences <https://rehabsci.phhp.ufl.edu/>, and typically finish the program in 4 years. All accepted Ph.D. students receive a stipend, tuition waiver, and health insurance. The Speech Development Lab (Dr. Susan Nittrouer) is seeking a talented student who is enthusiastic about conducting research in the areas of suprathreshold auditory processing and language development. Current projects include determining precisely how perceptual processing of the speech signal is affected by deleterious conditions such as poverty, frequent otitis media with effusion, and sensorineural hearing loss. Please visit our website for more info: http://www.speechdevelopment.org/. The Auditory Computation and Psychophysics Lab (Dr. Yonghee Oh) is seeking a talented student interested in fundamental questions about how hearing loss affects auditory processing, and developing a computational model to answer those questions. Current projects include the model-based approaches for understanding the underlying mechanism responsible for binaural spectral integration processing, as well as fundamental auditory function and improvement of speech perception abilities for hearing-impaired listeners (i.e., hearing aid and/or cochlear implant users) by developing new hearing devices programming strategies. The Speech Perception Lab (Dr. Sterling W. Sheffield) is seeking a talented student interested in spatial hearing and speech perception in complex real-world auditory environments. Our primary research objectives include characterizing the effects of hearing loss, hearing aids, and cochlear implants on spatial hearing and speech perception in complex ecologically valid environments. Lab expertise includes speech perception, acoustic room simulations, psychoacoustics, spatial and binaural hearing, and audiovisual integration. Current projects include acoustic room simulations with reverberation, novel programming techniques to improve speech perception and spatial hearing in cochlear implants, measures of spatial hearing and spectral processing, and speech segregation. Please forward this announcement to any individuals (undergraduates, AuD or MA-SLP students or professionals) interested in PhD training in speech and hearing science. Interested applicants are encouraged to contact their mentor of interest for further information: Lori Altmann, Ph.D., Program Director laltmann@xxxxxxxx Sterling W.
