I'm looking for a postdoc to help finish off a funded project in soundscape= s and machine listening. The project is called Making Sense of Sounds and i= s a collaboration between acoustics research at Salford and the machine lis= tening group at Surrey. We have funding until 31 October 2019. I realise th= is is not as attractive as a 3- or 5-year post but it may be that you know = of someone who would be interested. The project is investigating how to make sense from sound data, focussing o= n how to convert sound recordings into understandable and actionable inform= ation, and specifically how to allow people to search, browse and interact = with sounds. We have several outcomes for individual sounds and we have sta= rted to investigate time-varying urban soundscapes. The postdoc will be res= ponsible for measuring and modelling how people perceive urban sound scenes= , using quantitative and qualitative methods. The first task will be to bui= ld on a pilot soundscape experiment that we have run. The job would suit a researcher interested in seeing their soundscape resea= rch getting turned into useful tools with machine learning. We're looking f= or someone with a PhD in experimental psychology, psychoacoustics, audio pe= rception or a research topic with significant content directly relevant to = understanding perception. We'd expect experience in designing perceptual st= udies and in multidimensional statistical analysis. Experience with Matlab,= Python or R are desirable. The closing date for applications is 16 December and we expect to interview= on 7 January. (Interviews by Skype are fine.) More details and the applica= tion form are at: https://atsv7.wcn.co.uk/search_engine/jobs.cgi?SID=3DamNvZGU9MTc3NjQ5MyZ2dF= 90ZW1wbGF0ZT05MTkmb3duZXI9NTAzNjMyOCZvd25lcnR5cGU9ZmFpciZicmFuZF9pZD0wJnBvc= 3RpbmdfY29kZT0yMjQ<https://emea01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=3Dh= ttps%3A%2F%2Fatsv7.wcn.co.uk%2Fsearch_engine%2Fjobs.cgi%3FSID%3DamNvZGU9MTc= 3NjQ5MyZ2dF90ZW1wbGF0ZT05MTkmb3duZXI9NTAzNjMyOCZvd25lcnR5cGU9ZmFpciZicmFuZF= 9pZD0wJnBvc3RpbmdfY29kZT0yMjQ&data=3D02%7C01%7CW.Davies%40salford.ac.uk%7Cc= fcd42486ca84d68ccbe08d653ae45e8%7C65b52940f4b641bd833d3033ecbcf6e1%7C0%7C0%= 7C636788405298478504&sdata=3DIGgvoMTQWMWdfvpq%2BOFlOUz%2FabPOvrwSXhOewxxJ%2= BB0%3D&reserved=3D0>=3D Best, Bill Davies Professor Bill Davies Acoustics Research Centre | School of Computing, Science and Engineering w.davies@xxxxxxxx<mailto:w.davies@xxxxxxxx> | Google Scholar<http= s://scholar.google.co.uk/citations?user=3DRPVF0EsAAAAJ&hl=3Den> | ResearchG= ate<https://www.researchgate.net/profile/William_Davies8> | www.salford.ac.= uk<http://www.salford.ac.uk/> Room 108, Newton Building, University of Salford, Salford M5 4WT t: +44 (0) 161 295 5986 --_000_VI1PR01MB4575548C89AFB461ACDC856BD2D00VI1PR01MB4575eurp_ Content-Type: text/html; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <html xmlns:v=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" xmlns:o=3D"urn:schemas-micr= osoft-com:office:office" xmlns:w=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:word" = xmlns:m=3D"http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/2004/12/omml" xmlns=3D"http:= //www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40"> <head> <meta http-equiv=3D"Content-Type" content=3D"text/html; charset=3Dus-ascii"= > <meta name=3D"Generator" content=3D"Microsoft Word 15 (filtered medium)"> <style><!-- /* Font Definitions */ @xxxxxxxx {font-family:"Cambria Math"; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4;} @xxxxxxxx {font-family:Calibri; panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {margin:0cm; margin-bottom:.0001pt; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; mso-fareast-language:EN-US;} a:link, span.MsoHyperlink {mso-style-priority:99; color:#0563C1; text-decoration:underline;} a:visited, span.MsoHyperlinkFollowed {mso-style-priority:99; color:#954F72; text-decoration:underline;} span.EmailStyle17 {mso-style-type:personal-compose; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; color:windowtext;} .MsoChpDefault {mso-style-type:export-only; font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif; mso-fareast-language:EN-US;} @xxxxxxxx WordSection1 {size:612.0pt 792.0pt; margin:72.0pt 72.0pt 72.0pt 72.0pt;} div.WordSection1 {page:WordSection1;} --></style><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <o:shapedefaults v:ext=3D"edit" spidmax=3D"1026" /> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <o:shapelayout v:ext=3D"edit"> <o:idmap v:ext=3D"edit" data=3D"1" /> </o:shapelayout></xml><![endif]--> </head> <body lang=3D"EN-GB" link=3D"#0563C1" vlink=3D"#954F72"> <div class=3D"WordSection1"> <p class=3D"MsoNormal">Dear List,<o:p></o:p></p> <p class=3D"MsoNormal"><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p></p> <p class=3D"MsoNormal">Apols if you see this more than once.<o:p></o:p></p> <p class=3D"MsoNormal"><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p></p> <p class=3D"MsoNormal">I&#8217;m looking for a postdoc to help finish off a= funded project in soundscapes and machine listening.
