Applicants will be considered at the = level of Assistant Professor. The School seeks a scholar in music technolog= y whose interdisciplinary research spans both technical research and creati= ve practice, transforming the ways in which we create, experience, and unde= rstand music. The candidate will be expected to teach graduate and undergra= duate courses in music technology and to lead a research lab at the Georgia= Tech Center for Music Technology. The primary emphasis area can be drawn f= rom any area of music technology; examples include research that addresses = Virtual/Augmented Audio, Game Audio, Musical Acoustics, Computational Music= ology broadly defined, or Musical Interfaces and Hardware. Candidates are e= xpected to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to the teaching and mentor= ing of students. Georgia Tech's 2019 Margaret Guthman Musical Instrument Competition is an a= nnual event aimed at identifying the world's next generation of musical ins= truments and unveiling the best new ideas in musicality, design, engineerin= g, and impact. The Guardian called the competition "The Pulitzer of the Ne= w Instrument World," and The New York Times described the "special, otherwo= rldly sound that you can feel permeating your soul" which became the hallma= rk of the competition. Fast Company explained how Guthman's "Futuristic Ins= truments will change how we make music," and the Atlanta Magazine suggests = that "at the Guthman Competition, innovative instruments just might predict= the future of music." The Guthman Competition will take place March 8-9, 2= 019 at Georgia Tech's Ferst Center for the Arts, in Atlanta, Georgia.
