Our primary techniq= ues are patch-clamp electrophysiology and 2-photon imaging in brain slices = and in behaving mice. Key questions we want to answer are: -How do neural circuits extract meaningful information from noisy or ambigu= ous sensory signals? -How do =93higher order=94, associational brain regions control the encodin= g of behaviorally relevant auditory information in =93primary=94 sensory re= gions? -To what extent do neuromodulators such as serotonin, noradrenaline and ace= tylcholine control specific cell-types in central auditory circuits, and wh= at are the consequences for central auditory function? -What are the cellular mechanisms governing synaptic plasticity in animal m= odels of hearing disorders? Qualifications: You should have (or be close to completing) a Ph.D. and/or M.D., a passion = for scientific discovery, and experience with patch-clamp electrophysiology= , 2-photon imaging, animal behavior, and/or acoustics/auditory psychophysic= s. A detail-oriented, quantitative mindset and experience with scientific p= rogramming is critical. Please send an email with your CV, a few sentences stating your career goal= s, and contact info for 3 references directly to Pierre Apostolides (piapos= to@xxxxxxxx) ********************************************************** Electronic Mail is not secure, may not be read every day, and should not be= used for urgent or sensitive issues=20 --_000_80c2208631864f808713f278da61f05bmedumichedu_ MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/html; charset="windows-1252" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <html> <head> <meta http-equiv=3D"Content-Type" content=3D"text/html; charset=3DWindows-1= 252"> <style type=3D"text/css" style=3D"display:none;"><!-- P {margin-top:0;margi= n-bottom:0;} --></style> </head> <body dir=3D"ltr"> <div id=3D"divtagdefaultwrapper" style=3D"font-size:12pt;color:#000000;font= -family:Calibri,Helvetica,sans-serif;" dir=3D"ltr"> <p></p> <p style=3D"margin: 0px 0px 14px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal;= font-weight: normal; font-stretch: normal; font-size: 14px; line-height: n= ormal; font-family: Arial;"> <span style=3D"letter-spacing: 1px;">The Apostolides lab at University of M= ichigan=92s Kresge Hearing Research Center opens&nbsp;Fall&nbsp;2018. <a href=3D"https://www.apostolideslab.org" class=3D"OWAAutoLink" id=3D"LPln= k599824" previewremoved=3D"true"> https://www.apostolideslab.org</a></span></p> <p style=3D"margin: 0px 0px 14px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal;= font-weight: normal; font-stretch: normal; font-size: 14px; line-height: n= ormal; font-family: Arial;"> <span style=3D"letter-spacing: 1px;"></span><span style=3D"letter-spacing: = 1px;">We are looking for creative and motivated post-docs who want to under= stand the synaptic and cellular bases of auditory perception.
