The Department of Music Acoustics =E2=80=93 Wiener Klangstil (IWK) of the= =20 University of Music and Per-forming Arts Vienna (mdw) is starting a new=20 *H2020 European Project TROMPA* (Towards Richer Online Music=20 Public-domain Archives), coordinated by Prof. Emilia G=C3=B3mez (MIRlab,=20 Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona) which will be carried out under the=20 topic CULT-COOP-09-2017. This is a 3-year project that will start in May=20 2018. The mdw is looking to hire an *experienced researcher at an advanced=20 pre- or post-doctoral level*. You will be working on the multimodal=20 integration of music data including linking scores with performances,=20 ways to assess performance quality, and will be developing pilot=20 use-cases for instrument players and music scholars. TROMPA description Classical music is one of the greatest treasures of Europe=E2=80=99s cult= ural=20 heritage. Although it is a historical genre, it is continually=20 (re)interpreted and revitalised through musical performance. Today, most=20 of the classical repertoire is in the public domain; massive numbers of=20 scores and recordings are now available in online community-contributed=20 repositories actively used by scholars and musicians. Technology offers=20 ways to enrich and contextualise this repertoire, so that users might=20 better understand and appreciate it. However, because of variations in their quality and scale, this does not=20 happen automatically for public-domain resources. Amidst today=E2=80=99s = deluge=20 of data, relevant associations across repositories and between=20 modalities (e.g. from scores to recordings) still need to be made=20 manually, while the insights of previous users are not explicitly stored=20 for future users to learn from. It is thus impossible to get a=20 comprehensive insight into the full wealth of our musical cultural=20 her-itage. TROMPA will change this by massively enriching and democratising our=20 publicly available musical heritage through a user-centred co-creation=20 setup. For analysing and linking music data at scale, the project will=20 employ and improve state-of-the-art technology. Music-loving citizens=20 (including the large scene of amateur performers) will cooperate with=20 the technology, giving feedback on algorithmic results, and annotating=20 the data according to their personal expertise. Following an open innovation philosophy, all derived knowledge will be=20 released back to the community in reusable ways. This enables many uses=20 in applications which directly benefit crowd contributors and wider=20 audiences. TROMPA will demonstrate this for music scholars, con-tent=20 owners, instrumentalists, choir singers, and music enthusiasts. Via the=20 consortium and as-sociated partners, global audiences can be reached at=20 an unprecedented scale, with potential outreach to millions of users. The consortium consists of nine partners: Universitat Pompeu Fabra UPF),=20 Barcelona, coordina-tor; Technische Universiteit Delft (TUD), Delft;=20 Goldsmiths=E2=80=99 College (GOLD), London; Universit=C3=A4t f=C3=BCr Mus= ik und=20 darstellende Kunst Wien (MDW), Vienna; Video Dock BV (VD), Amsterdam;=20 Peachnote GmbH (PN), Munich; Voctro Labs SL (VL), Barcelona; Stichting=20 Koninklijk Concertge-bouworkest (RCO), Amsterdam; Stichting Centrale=20 Discotheek (CDR), Amsterdam. Planned starting date: between 1st May 2018 (preferred) and 1st=20 September 2018 Extent of employment: 40 hours per week Duration: 2 years with the option of extension Salary: According to the Austrian collective labour agreement, the=20 monthly gross pay for a pre-doctoral position is at a minimum =E2=82=AC 2= .794,60=20 (14 times), in case of job-related former experience a gross pay of =E2=82= =AC=20 3.313,20 (at a maximum) is possible. The monthly gross pay for a=20 post-doctoral position is =E2=82=AC 3.711,10 (14 times). Required skills and qualifications: =E2=80=A2 A Masters degree or a PhD in (systematic) musicology, comput= er=20 science, psychology or a related field. =E2=80=A2 Documented strong (practical or theoretical) experience with= =20 Classical music, preferably at a recognized post-secondary institution. =E2=80=A2 Programming skills and affinity to visualisation interfaces=20 (preferable in Python, C++, or similar) =E2=80=A2 You are a creative person and have good aesthetic judgement = in=20 designing use-case scenarios. =E2=80=A2 Excellent written and spoken English language skills. Application deadline: 25.
