The position is supported by gran= ts from the National Institutes of Health (NIDCD) and the hearing-aid indus= try. The position involves cognitive and auditory testing as well as develo= ping computational models of speech intelligibility and sound quality for a= dults wearing digital hearing aids. Our program of research considers varia= bility in speech understanding among older listeners; how cognition contrib= utes to that variability; and the extent to which those issues can be addre= ssed with specific hearing aid signal-processing strategies. We also work o= n the development of objective metrics for the prediction of sound quality = and speech intelligibility with hearing aids. The successful candidate will= have a PhD or equivalent research experience in a field related to auditor= y or cognitive science (audiology, psychology, engineering, gerontology, et= c.), as well as strong computational, mathematical modeling, and signal pro= cessing skills.
