The pupil dilation response has shown to be an informative = non-volitional indicator of cognitive processing during listening. Currentl= y, pupillometry is applied in labs throughout the world to assess the influ= ence of various relevant factors, such as hearing aid algorithms, CI rehabi= litation, language competency, and daily-life hearing disability, on listen= ing effort. In September 2017, the section Ear & Hearing of the VU University medical c= enter organized the Second Workshop on The Application of Pupillometry in H= earing Science to assess Listening Effort<http://www.audiologie-vumc.nl/ond= erzoek/workshop2017/index.htm>. The workshop was successful and will now be= followed up by a special issue of Trends in Hearing focusing on the same t= opic. The special issue is open to submissions from any authors, regardless= of attendance at the workshop. The aim of the special issue<http://journals.sagepub.com/page/tia/call-for-= papers/aphsle> is to review the state-of-the-art in research applying pupil= lometry. The special issue will encompass specific analysis techniques, par= ameters extracted from the pupil signal, interpretation of these parameters= and linking of these parameters to concepts described by relevant theoreti= cal models. The ambition is that by bringing together a significant number = of articles on closely related topics, including work by leading researcher= s in this field, the special issue will rapidly become a compact and popula= r reference source of knowledge for those making new or further steps in th= is burgeoning research area. Some basic information about the special issue is outlined below: - The 2016 impact factor of Trends in Hearing is 3.05. - Guidelines for submission and instruction for the authors can be= found here<https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/societyimages/tia/Trends%20MS%= 20guidelines.pdf>. - There are no strict limits on the number of papers (full-length = typically 10-20 pages) - All submissions will be peer reviewed. Therefore, acceptance of = your paper is not guaranteed. If you are interested in publishing in the special issue, please send us an= email describing the type of article you would like to submit, and its top= ic. The board of Guest Editors will let you know if your paper fits the spe= cial issue. In that case, a discounted Article Processing Charge of 500 USD= applies. The work should be submitted no later than 15 January 2018. Feel = free to contact us with any additional questions you might have.
