Classification: UNCLASSIFIED Caveats: NONE Call for Hearing Scientist or Research Associate - *Position available imme= diately*:=20 The U.S. Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory (USAARL) located at Fort Ruck= er, AL is looking for a qualified Hearing Scientist or qualified Hearing Re= search Associate to provide scientific and management support services to t= he Auditory Protection and Performance Division (APPD). Depending on qualif= ications and experience, the salary for either position will substantially = exceed NIH pay-scales for the successful candidate who can start immediatel= y. This is a two-year position with the potential for a more permanent role= depending on the candidate's fit, productivity, and contribution to the on= going research in the APPD. USAARL's research includes developing return-to-duty and injury prevention = standards, determining the effectiveness of life support equipment, personn= el protective equipment, as well as preventing and mitigating ground and ai= rcrew biomechanical injuries. The APPD maintains a unique capability in app= lied medical and operational research in the areas of auditory and vestibul= ar sciences. The research mission of the Division is to conduct sensory res= earch to protect, sustain, and extend the operational capabilities of our A= rmy's Service members.=20 This is also an exciting time for our lab as we begin building a new resear= ch program dedicated to advancing and optimizing human-machine interface ca= pabilities. Collaborating in a group of approximately ten scientists, engin= eers, technicians, and Soldiers, the successful applicant will function as = investigator and assist in formulating, conducting, and directing original = basic and applied research. See http://www.usaarl.army.mil/ Degree/Education/Certification Requirements:=20 * Research doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in Hear= ing Science, broadly defined (e.g., Engineering, Biomechanical Engineering,= Bioengineering, Physiology, Neuroscience, Biology, Psychology, etc.) or ot= her equivalent education. Clinical doctoral degrees (e.g., Au.D., Psy.D., = M.D., etc.) typically are not appropriate for this position. Hearing Scientist * Minimum of 8 years of experience or at least 5 years of research experien= ce following the awarding of the research doctoral degree.=20 * Demonstrated record of productivity and publication record in peer-review= ed journals. Hearing Research Associate * Two years or more post-doctoral experience is desired; however, exception= ally qualified recent Ph.D. graduates will also be considered.=20 * Minimum of one first-authored journal publication in a peer-reviewed jour= nal. Position Requirements:=20 * Skills and competencies to conduct experiments and analyze data.=20 * Strong knowledge of statistical analysis. * Proficient in MATLAB software coding.=20 * Demonstrated work with Tucker-Davis Technology and National Instruments h= ardware and software. * Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Clearance:=20 * U.S. Citizenship is required.=20 * Must have a favorable adjudicated National Agency Check with Inquiries or= an equivalent or higher investigation in accordance with Army Directive 20= 14-05.=20 Duties and responsibilities:=20 * The successful candidate will become credentialed as a USAARL Principal I= nvestigator (PI) which requires at least 2 years of doctoral research exper= ience and at least one first-authored, peer-reviewed publication.=20 * The candidate will become the Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Inve= stigator on research protocols and test plans supporting the Auditory Prote= ction and Performance Division task areas. * The candidate will have the ability to work independently with no directi= on to solve scientific, analytic, and technical problems. * The candidate will help recruit volunteer participants for approved resea= rch protocols and test plans, obtaining and documenting volunteer informed = consent, conducting research protocols and test plans, performing data anal= ysis, and manuscript preparation. * The candidate will become accredited by the Council for Accreditation in = Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC).
