Work in the Cerebral Systems Lab investigates multisensory an= d crossmodal plasticity in auditory cortex of hearing animals as well as an= imals with hearing loss (deafness) and hearing restoration (via cochlear pr= osthetics). We use an integrative approach combining behavioral psychophys= ics, single- and multiunit electrophysiological recording, reversible deact= ivation techniques, and functional MRI. All work is conducted in feline an= d monkey models of human hearing and hearing loss. Applicants with an inte= rest in auditory neuroscience, cortical plasticity, and multisensory proces= sing are highly encouraged to apply. Before the proposed start date, the candidate(s) must have completed a PhD = in Neuroscience, Physiology, Psychology, Computer Science, or related disci= pline, with a record of research success. Applicants are expected to have = a strong background in Systems/Cognitive Neuroscience or Hearing Science an= d training in behavioral psychophysics, electrophysiological recording, and= /or functional MRI. Quantitative and programming skills in MATLAB or equiv= alent are expected. The laboratory is an energetic, innovative, highly pro= ductive, and highly collaborative research environment with a strong commit= ment to the training and career development of postdoctoral fellows. The s= uccessful candidate must have the ability to work creatively and independen= tly. Our facilities include 5 sound booths for electrophysiological and psy= chophysical investigations, a dedicated surgical suite, histology and micro= scopy labs, and access to the research-dedicated ultra-high field (7T, 9.4T= ) magnets at the Centre for Functional and Metabolic Mapping at the Robarts= Research Institute. Annual salary will be based on the level of experience. Start date is flex= ible, but candidates will be expected to take up the position in 2017.
