--_000_14794334348953172purdueedu_ Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable [Apologies for cross posting] Two PhD student positions are available at the Systems Neuroscience of Audi= tory Perception<https://engineering.purdue.edu/SNAPLab> Lab at Purdue Unive= rsity. We study the physiological mechanisms that support perception in complex mu= lti-source environments (e.g., listening in crowded restaurants). Our appr= oach combines non-invasive physiological measurement techniques (EEG, MRI, = otoacoustic emissions) with behavioral listening experiments, and computati= onal modeling. A notable capability of the lab is the ability to non-invasi= vely measure, and to model physiological responses at different levels of t= he auditory pathway from the cochlea to the cortex. Current projects includ= e studies of the effects of overexposure to loud sounds, and the effects of= early aging on the auditory system, and in turn on perception in challengi= ng environments. Please visit https://engineering.purdue.edu/SNAPLab for more information. P= urdue University provides a vibrant intellectual environment with a large c= ommunity of hearing researchers<https://www.purdue.edu/hhs/slhs/events/semi= nars_in_hearing_research.html>, clinicians<http://www.purdue.edu/hhs/slhs/c= linics/index.html>, neuroscientists<https://www.purdue.edu/discoverypark/pi= llars/integrative-neuroscience-center/>, and biomedical engineers<https://e= ngineering.purdue.edu/BME/Research/ResearchAreas>. Applications can be submitted through the Weldon School of Biomedical Engin= eering<https://engineering.purdue.edu/BME/Academics/Graduate/Admissions>, o= r the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences<http://www.purdu= e.edu/hhs/slhs/graduate/index.html> as described here<https://engineering.p= urdue.edu/SNAPLab/research/prospective.html>. Informal enquiries about the positions can be directed to Hari Bharadwaj (h= bharadwaj@xxxxxxxx<mailto:hbharadwaj@xxxxxxxx>). Preference will be giv= en to applications received by December 15, 2016. Thanks, Hari -- Hari M.
