The Sonic Arts Research Centre is part of the School of Creative Arts and researches both artistic and technical aspects of working with sound. The custom-built facilities feature the "Sonic Lab", an auditorium with a 3D-surround 48-loudspeaker set-up (including a ring underneath the audience) as well as numerous smaller acoustically treated spaces.
