The person appointed will be a charismatic leader with clear vision, a strong strategist, and a first-class manager of people and complex relationships. In addition, he/she should have: demonstrable leadership in his/her field of research; strong strategic skills; a collegiate approach with the ability to foster the strategic ambitions of others; financial acumen and proven managerial ability; strong communication and interpersonal skills; excellent time-management skills with the ability to prioritise and balance the various demands on their time such that he/she is accessible to others, appropriate to need; experience of academic and administrative leadership and management at senior level; demonstrable ability to motivate and build morale and team spirit; the ability to promote the aims of the Institute to the academic community, national and international funding bodies and relevant organisations; and the capacity to work in partnership with the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital and other UCL Partners hospitals on research and development issues. Ideally, he/she should also have knowledge of UK university teaching, research administration and funding; and an appreciation of the complexities of the National Health Service, and the relationship between Higher Education and the Department of Health.
