This position is part of the EU funded Marie Curie Initial Training Network BATWOMAN (Basic Acoustics Training - & Workprogram On Methodologies for Acoustics - Network). The motivation for the research is the ongoing trend in workplace arrangements towards open plan offices. Such environments offer an increased flexibility in workplace layout but introduce potential problems due to the interference of concentration and communication needs. The goal of this PhD project is to broaden our understanding of the distractive effects on cognitive processes caused by sounds in the environment. In particular, we want to develop predictive models that allow quantifying this distraction for specific processes, like recall from working memory.
