Call for Entries to Georgia Tech's 2015 Margaret Guthman Musical Instrument Competition Deadline extended until November 15th, 2014 Share your ideas for the next generation of musical instruments at Georgia Tech’s 2015 Margaret Guthman Musical Instrument Competition. An annual event to find the world’s best new ideas in musicality, design and engineering, Wired magazine has called the competition an “X-Prize for music,” and contestants have likened it to a TED Conference for new musical instrument designers. 2015 Guthman Competition Judges: Joe Paradiso - Director of the MIT Media Lab's Responsive Environments Group and Associate Professor of Media Arts & Sciences at MIT. Paradiso is a physicist who has worked with NASA and a designer of electronic music synthesizers and MIDI systems. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_A._Paradiso Graham Marsh - Producer, mixer, writer, engineer, multi-instrumentalist with four Grammy awards and numerous Grammy nominations. The deadline for submissions is November 15, 2014. Approximately 20 semi-finalists will be invited to demonstrate, discuss, and perform with their instruments at the competition as they compete for $10,000 in cash prizes. The competition takes place on February 19th - 20th, 2015, at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. This marks the first year the Guthman Competition will be extending a special invitation to students. We are excited to provide limited travel support for selected student submissions (student ID required).
