Dear list members, I found the reference I was looking for (perhaps there are other, similar papers out there): Stillman, J. A. (1989). A comparison of three adaptive psychophysical procedures using inexperienced listeners. Perception & psychophysics, 46(4), 345-350. In this work the author estimates the threshold of the participant with an adaptive procedure ( 2-down, 1-up; 3-down, 1-up; PEST tracking the 80%) and later presents to the participant the estimated threshold repeatedly in a fixed stimuli experiment. Thank you all! m -- http://www.psy.unipd.it/~grassi/ http://www.springer.com/978-1-4614-2196-2
