Duties for this position include undergraduate and graduate teaching, scholarly research, directing student research, and participating in service activities. Research areas of particular interest include: * Characterizing pivotal components that influence early speech/language development in typically developing children and those with hearing loss or other disorders * Neuroscience approaches to identifying causes of speech, language and hearing disorders that can inform our clinical programs and procedures * Phonological disorders in children and/or reading disabilities with a focus on experiential or neurobiological factors * Impact of hearing loss and/or hearing assistive technology on auditory comprehension, language acquisition and development of literacy * Exploring the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based practice in communication disorders The Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences has close ties with related units on campus, including the Departments of Linguistics and Psychology; the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center; the Autism Center; the Integrated Brain Imaging Center; the Institute for Learning and Brain Sciences; the Virginia Merrill Bloedel Hearing Research Center; and, the Seattle Children's Hospital. Ph.D. or equivalent is required. Prerequisites for both positions include evidence of teaching effectiveness, research productivity, and potential for external funding. Base salary (nine-month academic year) is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience; a full range of fringe benefits is available.
