NIH funding is available for a postdoctoral scientist to join the laboratory of Michelle Molis at the National Center for Rehabilitative Auditory Research (NCRAR), located at the Portland VA Medical Center and associated with the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU). The project, entitled “Perception of Dynamic Acoustic Signals by Hearing- Impaired Listeners”, compares the performance of normally-hearing and hearing-impaired listeners on a number of tasks designed to assess basic perceptual abilities in response to complex, non-speech auditory stimuli. Based on the results of these behavioral measures, a computational model will be developed that can account for differences in speech intelligibility due to hearing status and stimulus characteristics. Qualified applicants will have a Ph.D. in Psychology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Neuroscience, or related fields. Individuals who have experience with psychophysical methods, speech processing, digital signal processing, computational modeling, and MATLAB programming are especially encouraged to apply. The NCRAR is a Dept. of Veterans Affairs Center of Excellence, and the only such center dedicated to the discovery and delivery of cutting-edge solutions to auditory system impairments. Founded in 1997, the NCRAR strives to distinguish itself by focusing on the rehabilitation of auditory dysfunction and translation of research findings into practice. Visit the NCRAR website to learn more about us and the work we do: http://www.ncrar.research.va.gov/ http://www.ncrar.research.va.gov/AboutUs/Staff/Molis.asp Applications should include a cover letter, CV, one or more representative publications, and three recent academic or research references.
