The position will be offe= red for 2 years, with a potential of extending the duration. The research in the laboratory involves studying the interface between the = electrode and the corresponding stimulated neurons with cochlear implants. = Primary topics of interest involve reshaping electric fields in the cochle= a, understanding the relationship between rate and place coding throughout = the cochlea, and working with patients who have both acoustic and electric = hearing. Research methodology is primarily psychophysical; however, both o= bjective measures and performance with experimental speech processors are m= easured in the lab. Ideal candidates will have strong technical skills as they will be expected= to work on a technical level with cochlear implants. Strong interpersonal= skills are also important. The candidate will be expected to work closely= with patients. Our group is structured collaboratively and it is importan= t for the candidate to be a highly motivated team player. The candidate wil= l be encouraged to seek their own funding and develop an independent career.
