I had quite some material to dig= est. For dynamic stimuli (FM), there seems to be a bias for rising frequenc= y and this could be explained at the level of basilar membrane. I am intere= sted to know whether this bias is preset for static stimuli? i.e., is a hig= h frequency tone easy to detect in a sequence as compared to low frequency = tones? Is the frequency discrimination better when the comparison tone is o= f higher frequency to the reference tone compared to the condition where th= e comparison tone is of lower frequency? Thanks, Varghese ________________________________ From: Varghese Peter Sent: Friday, 31 May 2013 12:05 PM To: AUDITORY@xxxxxxxx Subject: Frequency increment vs decrement Dear List, I was wondering whether anyone is aware of asymmetries in the perception of= frequency changes? ie, is upward change in frequency easy to hear from dow= nward change in frequency ? Is there any systematic effect in this regard?
