See also http://www.hearingresearch.uni-oldenburg.de/62170.html Best regards, Tim J=FCrgens Doctoral candidate / PhD student for "New signal processing strategies for cochlea implants and hearing aids" Cochlea implants that stimulate the auditory nerve electrically provide=20 enormous benefits for profound hearing impaired listeners in terms of=20 their ability to understand speech. Recent developments in clinical=20 surgery made it possible that many patients can keep their remaining=20 acoustic hearing abilities as well, rather than losing it completely=20 after surgery. This "hybrid" hearing provides further hearing benefits=20 than electrical hearing alone. However, cochlea implant stimulation=20 strategies to date are not yet optimized for these kinds of patients.=20 Even more improvements can be expected if the recent signal processing=20 developments in up-to-date acoustical hearing aids are transferred to=20 cochlea implants. This project aims at finding new optimized stimulation=20 strategies for cochlea implant users for both hybrid and electrical-only=20 hearing. A novel computer model-approach will be used to simulate the=20 reaction of auditory nerve cells of patients to different stimulation=20 strategies. New and existing signal processing techniques used in=20 acoustic hearing aids, such as noise-reduction, multiband dynamic=20 compression or beamforming, will be used to find such optimal=20 stimulation strategies. Subsequent clinical studies in cooperation with=20 the Medizinische Hochschule Hannover will validate the optimized=20 strategies in real patients. DUTIES OF THE CANDIDATE: * To develop, implement and evaluate signal processing strategies for cochlea implants and hearing aids * To write scientific manuscripts * To participate in the structured PhD programme DESIRED EXPERIENCE OF THE CANDIDATE: * Academic university degree (Master or equivalent) in Physics or a related field * A strong interest in Medical Physics * Experience in digital signal processing with Matlab The position is financed by 50% E13 TV-L initially for 2 years, with=20 prospect of continuation. The University of Oldenburg is an equal-opportunity employer that seeks=20 to increase that seeks to increase the proportion of women in science.=20 Therefore, we especially encourage female candidates to apply. In=20 compliance with lower saxony legal regulations (NHG =A721) equally=20 qualified female candidates will be given preference. Candidates with=20 disabilities will be employed preferentially if equally qualified. The Department of Medical Physics and Acoustics offers an attractive=20 scientific environment in an international team of scientists and access=20 to state-of-the-art acoustical equipment and auditory labs. Starting=20 date is any time before 10/2013. Applications should include a letter of=20 motivation, a CV, a copy of the university diplomas/transcripts and - if=20 applicable - a list of publications. Application deadline is*31.5.2013*. Please send your application to=20 Prof. Dr. Dr. Birger Kollmeier, Exzellenzcluster Hearing4all, Carl von=20 Ossietzky Universit=E4t, 26111 Oldenburg,*or preferencially per=20 email*tokarin.klink(at)uni-oldenburg.de=20 <http://www.uni-oldenburg.de/uni/safesend/?id=3Dkarin.klink&domain=3Duni-= oldenburg.de>. --=20 Dr. Tim J=FCrgens Junior professor Department of Medical Physics and Acoustics Carl-von-Ossietzky University Oldenburg Carl-von-Ossietzky Str. 9-11 D-26111 Oldenburg, Germany --------------010105040908050006050605 Content-Type: multipart/related; boundary="------------050503050807010204020302" --------------050503050807010204020302 Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-15 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <html> <head> <meta http-equiv=3D"content-type" content=3D"text/html; charset=3DISO= -8859-15"> </head> <body text=3D"#000000" bgcolor=3D"#FFFFFF"> Dear list,<br> please find attached the advertisement of a PhD position in Oldenburg, Germany.
