ARI is an interdisciplinary research institution covering the fields of psychoacoustics, numerical acoustics, acoustical phonetics, and mathematical signal processing. The position is available as part of the project "BiPhase", funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF). BiPhase focuses on linking binaural hearing, particularly interaural-time-difference (ITD) perception, and phase effects of the cochlea. The main goals are to describe how the cochlear phase response affects ITD sensitivity both in the healthy and damaged cochlea and to develop an ITD-based psychophysical method to measure the cochlear phase response. The successful candidate will be part of the Psychoacoustics and Experimental Audiology group. She/he will design, implement, and conduct psychophysical experiments with normal-hearing and hearing-impaired listeners, and analyze as well as publish the results. Applicants should * hold a PhD in natural/technical sciences, psychology, or another discipline related to hearing * have scientific experience in a field related to hearing science * have experience in designing, programming, and conducting psychophysical experiments * have excellent skills in scientific writing * be able to integrate into a multidisciplinary research team The salary will be EUR 47.345,2 per year (before taxes), according to the guidelines of the Austrian Science Fund (100% = 40 hours/week).
