Industrial CASE PhD Studentship in Non-Visual Displays for Connected Television A 3.5 year studentship is being offered jointly by BBC R&D and the University of York, UK, to start no later than 30th September 2012. The closing date for applications is 30th June 2012. As the content provided by broadcasters becomes more diverse and more dependent on interactivity, visually-impaired users are increasingly restricted by the very heavy dependence of TV on visual interfaces, such as the electronic programme guide, Red Button services and set-top box menus. The aim of this research is to develop an auditory interface which improves accessibility to TV services for people who cannot use a visual display and which enhances interaction for people who can.
