(2009). A comparison of the temporal weighting of annoyance and loudness. Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 126(6), 3168-3178. Our results show that the first 100 to 300 ms of a level-fluctuating sound have a greater impact on the annoyance than the following temporal sections. We did not study environmental sounds, however. In this context, another recent paper might be of interest, where we studied the effects of the temporal structure of sounds (level profile) on perceptual weights for loudness. Given the well known correlation between loudness and annoyance, this might be relevant for annoyance, too. * Oberfeld, D., & Plank, T. (2011).
