SAMS is an application produced using the Development System for Auditory Modelling (DSAM). Simulations can be designed =93by hand=94 or using a GUI and employ= s the powerful DSAM scripting language. This new release of the SAMS application now boasts a new 38-page application manual to help get users started in addition to the existing tutorials. DSAM provides a flexible environment for both novice and advanced users to run auditory models. It provides immediate access to auditory models such a= s the Zilany and Bruce (2006, 2007), Meddis et al. (2001) auditory nerve models and the Auditory Image Model (AIM) by Patterson et al. (2001). In al= l it provides seven different published auditory nerve models using both linear and non-linear basilar membrane frequency selectivity including the DRNL and Gamma-Chirp models. It also provides several neural cell models including an ultra-fast implementation of the Hudgkin-Huxley neural cell which operates at 80% the speed of a simple point neuron model (the McGrego= r Model). Other auditory models, analysis functions, threaded processing and sound file support are also provided. A 369 page manual is available for DSAM that provides detailed information on how simulations can be created and controlled. Why was the name changed? The answer is that the previous application name= , =93AMS=94 conflicted with an existing application provided by the Ubuntu operating system. Ubuntu is the most popular of the free Linux operating system distributions, and an automatic installation for Ubuntu has been lon= g overdue. It was therefore decided to tack the word =93Simple=94 to the fron= t of the title of the application. This provides a unique name, and also allows = a more descriptive title bringing more focus on the aim to produce an application that is intended to be easy to use.
