PhD Position: Noise annoyance indicators for tram noise combined with urban= road traffic noise For countries belonging to the European Union, L DEN index (day-evening-nig= ht level) has to be used in noise maps in order to represent the exposure s= ituation due to various community noises, such as road traffic noise. Given= that L DEN is a mean energy-based index, its relevance as a noise annoyanc= e indicator is questioned. This PhD work aims to contribute to a better characterization of the total = annoyance due to tram noise combined with road traffic noise in urban areas= . It is based on an experiment carried out under laboratory conditions. Var= ious vehicles of urban road traffic (two-wheeled vehicles, light vehicles, = heavy vehicles and buses) and tram vehicles will be considered in diverse d= riving conditions. Firstly, acoustical factors, and especially auditory att= ributes, which may influence noise annoyance, will be studied. Secondly, no= ise annoyance indicators taking into account the influent acoustical factor= s will be proposed, and tested during noise sequences of longer duration in= simulated conditions. This PhD work will enable the enhancement of noise a= nnoyance indicators for tram noise combined with urban road traffic noise. = It will also enable to compare different methods for assessing short-term n= oise annoyance.
