Applications are invited for an NSERC-supported M.Sc. (2-year) or Ph.D. (4-year) studentship under the supervision of Dr. Ewan Macpherson at the University of Western Ontario. Applications are preferred by May 1, 2011 (see link below). Research will be conducted in relation to an NSERC-funded project which studies spatial hearing. Foci of the project include quantification of stimulus, environmental, and individual factors affecting the integration of sound localization cues; benefits of head movement for sound source detection, segregation, and localization; and multimodal (visual, vestibular, and proprioceptive) sensory integration in dynamic sound localization. Virtual auditory space simulation methods will be used extensively throughout the project. Studies will be conducted in the Hearing Science field of the Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (HRS) graduate program in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Western. The following links give more information about this program: http://www.uwo.ca/fhs/health_rehab_sci/index.html http://www.uwo.ca/fhs/health_rehab_sci/fields/hearing_science.html Faculty in the Hearing Science field are based at the National Centre for Audiology (NCA, http://nca.uwo.ca), and have diverse interests in basic, translational, and clinical research in hearing science and audiology. Research at the NCA is highly collaborative, and Hearing Science graduate students also have many opportunities to interact with faculty and students in other HRS fields and in other Western graduate programs such as Neuroscience and Engineering. The excellent research facilities at the NCA include fully instrumented anechoic and reverberation chambers and are supported by in-house technical staff. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated excellence in academic performance, good quantitative/programming skills, and research experience. Previous experience in the hearing sciences, perceptual psychology, or a related field is desirable, but not mandatory. Application procedures and materials are available online at: http://www.uwo.ca/fhs/health_rehab_sci/academic_information/apply.html Please address any inquiries regarding this position by email to: Dr. Ewan A. Macpherson, Assistant Professor School of Communication Sciences and Disorders & National Centre for Audiology University of Western Ontario London, Ontario, Canada ewan.macpherson@xxxxxxxx
