Sorry for the naive questions, but does masking take place in the cochlea or in the auditory cortex? Does missing fundamental perception take place in the cochlea or in the auditory cortex? Ditto, awareness and attention. For example, the two-tone interference experiments such as missing fundamental, combination tones, masking, etc. should all be explainable by the same model. ... Furthermore, the model should be capable of separating sounds in terms of awareness and attention.
