Forwarded to Auditory on behalf of Lynne Marshall: We are seeking a deputy to a Senior Scientist at a military research laboratory in southeastern Connecticut. The goal of the research program is preventing premature hearing loss in Navy personnel. The deputy coordinates and supports multiple projects. This position will facilitate and track progress of budgets, finances, milestones, experiments, data, decisions, communications, and other related tasks electronically. Assemble and maintain all project documentation in both electronic and hard-copy format. Provide oversight and coordination of other support personnel both on-site and at remote locations. Set deadlines, assign responsibilities, and monitor and summarize progress of project with summary reports. Interface with multiple external contacts on non-scientific issues. Provide update briefings to Principal Investigator of complete project status on short notice. Competently respond to routine inquiries from inside and outside the command. When designated, represent Principal Investigator in her absence. Responsibilities: 1. Manage and track all aspects of conducting scientific research. Documents will exist in multiple media and will be always accessible to the Senior Scientist. All details of the research will be documented in this form, including reasons behind all of the decisions made at each stage of the research. 2. Assist in protocol development, volunteer recruitment/scheduling. 3. Oversee preparation of purchase requisitions and necessary support documentation, as well as tracking the purchase process. 4. Assist in protocol development of project budgets and ensure periodic spending updates are sent to project sponsors. 5. Coordinate with contracting personnel to ensure contracts with outside collaborators are executed in a timely manner. 6. Oversee coordination of research schedules, to include conference registrations, travel arrangements, etc. 7. Oversee/perform data collection and analysis. 8. Provide research support on multiple concurrent projects, as needed. 9. Prepare periodic reports, documents, slides, and correspondence. Maintain slide library. 10. Must be able to maintain several projects/tasks at one time, ensuring timely completion of all when additional items are added along the way. 11. Additional general duties as required. Qualifications: Candidates should be technically inclined, be highly competent with Microsoft Office software, possess some experience with research, and have demonstrated management skills. Candidates must have strong speaking, writing, and organizational skills. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. The candidate must be able to travel about 10% of the time. Position requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and 6 years of related experience or Master's degree in a technical field and 4 years of related experience.
