Our laboratory uses a coordinated approach involving neurophysiology, psychoacoustics, and computational modeling to relate physiological and perceptual effects of sensorineural hearing loss. In this project, the candidate will perform neurophysiological experiments (and computational modeling) to study the relative effects of outer- and inner-hair-cell damage on the neural coding of temporal fine structure and envelope in the auditory nerve. Experience in neurophysiology is desired, but strong candidates with experience in computational modeling and psychoacoustics will be considered. This position will provide the candidate with extensive opportunities for collaboration through the interdisciplinary Purdue Hearing and Acoustics in Science and Engineering (PHASE) program (http://www.purdue.edu/research/phase/), which includes hearing scientists from the departments of Speech Language and Hearing Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Biological Sciences. For informal inquiries about the position, or for information about the formal application procedures, contact Michael Heinz, Ph.D. (mheinz@xxxxxxxx; 765-496-6627). ----- Michael G.
