The position has potential for someone with the right background (postgrad audiology qualification) to complete a PhD. Closing date is Sept 25th. University Hospital of South Manchester Foundation Trust Research Clinical Scientist Withington Community Hospital, in collaboration with the University of Manchester, has secured three-year funding from the National Institute of Health Research to undertake a series of studies investigating cochlear dead regions (DRs) in adults. The project will investigate both the prevalence of DRs in new hearing aid referrals and the benefits conferred by a variety of amplification options. A researcher/clinical scientist is required to manage the day-to-day running of the project and will be responsible for all aspects of data collection and analysis. Knowledge of tests procedures for diagnosing dead regions and familiarity with NHS hearing instruments is highly desirable. You should have good written and oral communication and organisational skills, be a team player, and have the ability to work independently and show initiative. The post will suit an individual who is motivated to undertake research that translates basic research into benefit for patients. There would be the opportunity to enrol for a PhD, maintain clinical skills, and contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. You should possess a postgraduate qualification in Audiology and preferably have completed (or be working towards) the BAA certificate in audiological competence (CAC). The appointment is fixed-term for three years and will be Band 6 salary range £29091 - £38352 (under review) The appointment is subject to a satisfactory enhanced CRB disclosure.
