So, I wonder whether this fast check shouldn't be also a responsibility of the editors/staff. Reviewers (me included, I confess) might indeed have a tendency to trust the journal on this point. This at least because they are receiving a manuscript for which authors answered the multiple simultaneous submissions question (although I also wonder how this might be accurately verified by the staff).
