As has been done every 2 years since 1999, the charity Deafness Research UK has agreed to provide some financial support for a small number of U.K.-based Ph.D. students and recent post-docs to attend the 2009 Conference on Implantable Auditory Prostheses at Lake Tahoe, California, 12-17 July: http://www.hei.org/ciap/index.html Up to three travel awards of £750 each are available. Clearly, this amount will not cover the total expenses, but should provide an important supplement to other funding. Those eligible to apply are Ph.D. students and recent post-doctoral students at UK institutions. Preference will be given to candidates involved in cochlear implant research or attached to a cochlear implant programme. Please send applications to me by email on or before 26 May. This should include a brief CV, a statement of research interests, a statement of the potential benefits of attending the conference, and a supporting letter from the supervisor or other senior colleague. It is a condition of the funding that a brief report be sent to Defeating Deafness shortly after the conference. If you are considering applying, I would appreciate a short message right away so I can gauge the demand. A decision will be made by 5 June. Please forward this message to anyone you think might be interested. -- /*------------------------------------------------*/ Stuart Rosen, PhD Professor of Speech and Hearing Science Speech, Hearing and Phonetic Sciences UCL Division of Psychology & Language Sciences 2 Wakefield Street London WC1N 1PF England Tel: (+ 44 [0]20) 7679 4077 Admin: (+ 44 [0]20) 7679 4050 Fax: (+ 44 [0]20) 7679 4238 Email: stuart@xxxxxxxx Home page: http://www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/home/stuart /*------------------------------------------------*/
