Subject: Extended deadline and grad student awards: SMPC 2009 From: Aniruddh Patel <apatel@xxxxxxxx> Date: Fri, 6 Feb 2009 16:17:58 -0800 List-Archive:<http://lists.mcgill.ca/scripts/wa.exe?LIST=AUDITORY>Dear colleagues, The abstract deadline for the 2009 Society for Music Perception and Cognition meeting has been extended to Feb 15th. http://music.iupui.edu/smpc2009/ The meeting is Aug 3-7 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The SMPC board is also pleased to announce that the 2009 meeting will have two new elements, aimed at graduate students: 1. A graduate student breakfast on Aug 5th. All graduate students are invited to attend, to meet other students and the SMPC board in an informal setting. 2. Merit-based travel awards ($250 each). These awards will be based on a 2-page paper, based on a submitted abstract. Graduate students who are primary authors on an SMPC abstract (submitted via http://music.iupui.edu/smpc2009/ by the Feb 15th, 2009 deadline) may apply for a travel award by sending a supplemental 2-page, single-spaced paper to g.schellenberg@xxxxxxxx by March 1st. The paper should be an expanded version of the submitted abstract, with the headings: Introduction, Methods, Results, Conclusions. This list of headings may be recycled for papers that summarize multiple experiments, if the author wishes to do so. All papers will be evaluated by a blind review committee. Please include author names and affiliations at the top of the paper, below the title. Since this identifying information will be removed for blind review, please submit documents in Word format (not pdf). Awards will be announced by April 15th. From the award winners, the SMPC board will choose one student (based on the full conference presentation) for the "SMPC 2009 outstanding student researcher award", which will consist of an additional $250. The names of all award winners will be posted at the conference and on the SMPC website. Regards, Ani Patel President, SMPC Aniruddh D. Patel, Ph.D. Esther J.
