Jan, Carney&Geisler (1986) and Geisler&Gamble (1989) also have some useful figures showing population auditory nerve "spectrograms" to various syllables. Carney&Geisler (1986) A temporal analysis of auditory-nerve fiber responses to spoken stop consonant-vowel syllables, JASA 79:1896-1914. Geisler&Gamble (1989) Responses of "high-spontaneous" auditory-nerve fibers to constant-vowel syllables in noise, JASA 85:1639-1652. Daniel J. Hardcastle and J. Laver `The Handbook of Phonetic Sciences' Oxford: Blackwell, 1997 pp. 507-538.
