Somewhat dated test results of the timing characteristics of inexpensive sound cards can be found at http://www.neurobs.com/presentation/hardware_corner/sound_cards/test_results. For better quality cards, delays between the parallel port trigger range from 0.3-0.5 ms (mean), with a variance (time jitter) of less than 0.1 ms. This is good enough for most AEPs (except perhaps the cochlear microphonic or ABRs) provided that you correct for the mean delay. David Woods -- David L.
